This year saw Vista Entertainment Solutions sponsoring the AIMC golf day again and it was bigger and better than ever. Surprisingly enough the weather on the Gold Coast was very changeable and delegates woke/arrived on the Sunday morning to torrential rain. Fortunately, by the time the players arrived at the course the rain had stopped and the sun was starting to poke through. The banter amongst the players was as healthy as usual with the main point of contention being the proposed handicaps being suggested.
The highlight of the registration process was the fact that all of the “larger” shirts went quickly with plenty of small shirts being available to those that registered later….dread to think what sizes would have been needed at the end of the week after all the breakfasts, lunches, gala dinners and late night cocktail functions.
Having made their way to the starting tees, the field tee’d off with many still debating exactly how their handicaps were justified.
Throughout the day, the dynamic duo of Kenny (Ken Benson) and Shippy (Nathan Shipp) (from News Limited) were seen driving round the course providing useful tips and suggestions on how to improve swings and read putts. As ever, the fact that neither has any knowledge of playing golf didn't stop them from offering their advice. Many thought they were there to look pretty and take good photos, sorry, we mean look good and take pretty photo’s!
Along with the dynamic duo, the drinks and food cart was forever doing the rounds, and it should be noted that all of the pies were the first to go and very few of the healthy / non-alcoholic drinks were touched.
The standard of golf was average to middling as ever with the occasional flash of brilliance.
The winning team of Paul Johnson, Terry Jackman, Murray Forrest and Wayne Duband, truly set the course alight. Not only were they outright winners, they were home an hour before most other teams – a true sign of a splendid round. In fact, we would like to dispel all the rumours spread by the losing teams suggesting they filled their card in prior to the round and never actually played.
We would also like to make special mention of Paula Johnson who took out the female longest drive for the second year running.
The day finished with the prize giving and the charity auction. All up $6000 was raised which is a great result.
Thanks to everyone involved especially all the sponsors and we look forward to another successful golf day next year.
