CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Vista Charity golf Tournament was held in beautiful weather at the Lakelands Golf Course on Sunday 19 August. 32 players competed in eight teams with the winners being the 2011 Charity Shield holders - Murray Forrest, Paul Johnson, Terry Jackman and Kirk Edwards. In all $6,000 was raised through sponsors, player fees and a donation from Vista for Variety-The Children's Charity and the Motion Picture Benevolent Association. Read more...
QUEENSLAND PREMIERE SCREENING
The AIMC opening night featured a star-studded Premiere Screening of the film MENTAL. Fans were delighted to see the stars Rebecca Gibney, Anthony LaPaglia and Lily Sullivan walk the red carpet together with writer/director P.J. Hogan and producer Todd Fellman.
The screening was followed by an after party reminiscent of a Barry Moochmore electoral campaign which featured iconic Australian band Mental As Anything. Read more...
KEYNOTE & GUEST SPEAKERS
Kim Williams AM, Chief Executive, News Limited, presented the Keynote Address on Tuesday 21 August calling on the government to strengthen legislation to stop piracy and revamp the existing copyright framework to reflect the industry's shift from analogue to digital.
Other speakers throughout the convention included Barry Urquhart, Managing Director, Marketing Focus, who discussed just why Service That Satisfies - Sells; Donna Mulholland, Group Marketing Manager Sparkling, Coca-Cola Amatil, presented the brand's summer 2012/2013 Marketing Plans; Damian Wardle, VP of Global Theatre Technology & Presentation, Cinemark Holdings USA, focused on systems and procedures on Streamlining Digital gleaned from his experience of converting one of the USA's largest cinema chains to digital; and Neil Gane, Managing Director, Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft focused on the Challenges and Solutions Facing the Australian Screen Community.

The major and independent film distributor presentations provided an exciting showcase of product reels and feature films set for release in the coming 12 months. Feature films catered to a wide range of tastes and included: MENTAL (Universal Pictures) , THE SESSIONS (20th Century Fox), PITCH PERFECT (Universal), ROBOT & FRANK (Sony Pictures Releasing), NOW IS GOOD (Walt Disney Studios), ARGO (Warner Bros.), KILLING THEM SOFTLY (Hoyts Distribution), LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED (Madman Entertainment), DREDD (Icon Film Distribution), THE SWEENEY (Hoyts Distribution).
INDEPENDENT DISTRIBUTORS DINNER AND AWARDS
The AIDA Dinner, trailer presentations and Award ceremony was held on Monday 20 August in the Pavilion Ballroom, Jupiters Hotel & Casino. Master of Ceremonies and AIDA President, Robert Slaverio, introduced delegates to the various member companies of AIDA as well as special guests Brendan Cowell (SAVE YOUR LEGS - released by Madman) and Bindi Irwin (NIM'S ISLAND II - released by Pinnacle Films).

BOX OFFICE AWARDS LUNCHEON
The elegant 2012 AIMC Box Office Awards lunch on Wednesday 22 August featured Gold Coast local MC, Warren 'Wazza' Bray who presented the top awards for the year August 2011 to August 2012.
Walt Disney Studios' THE AVENGERS took out the top honours in three categories, whilst RED DOG received the Award for Highest Grossing Australian Film. Read more...
CONVENTION WRAP & GALA FINALE
Moonee Ponds' legendary housewife and Australia's greatest Dame, Dame Edna Everage, delighted delegates with an exclusive show which featured the presentation of the Murray Forrest Award for Film Craft to cinematographer Don McAlpine. Don's career spans over 40 years and includes iconic Australian films ADVENTURES OF BARRY MCKENZIE, DON'S PARTY, GETTING OF WISDOM, THE ODD ANGRY SHOT, MY BRILLIANT CAREER, BREAKER MORANT, and recently MENTAL as well as international productions PREDATOR, PATRIOT GAMES, MRS. DOUBTFIRE, ANGER MANAGEMENT, PETER PAN, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE to name just a few.
Delegates were then treated to a gala Convention Wrap 'Funhouse' themed party, featuring Rolling Stones tribute band Exile.
INAUGURAL TRIVIA CHALLENGE
The AIMC joined forces with Popcorn Taxi to launch the Inaugural Trivia Challenge on Tuesday evening. Popcorn Taxi's Chris Murray and Oscar Hillerstrom created a dynamic, fun and challenging evening of entertainment. TRADE SHOW
Whilst smaller than in past years, the Trade Show was still the focus of business opportunities as suppliers met with delegates interested in expanding, refurbishing, converting to digital, or just wanting to upgrade equipment.
The Coca-Cola Meeting Place provided the perfect place to enjoy some time-out from a very busy program of activities.
