THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE BIZARRE – CONNECTING WITH CONNECTORS
The old saying “it’s not what you know, but who you know” has become dangerously relevant to marketing. “Word of mouth” has always been the most effective form or advertising, but social networks have enabled “word of mouse” and supercharged personal recommendations. When used effectively these connections can mean success. But they also have a dark side. Unilever CEO Paul Polman said “It took six weeks for consumers to overthrow the Egyptian government and they can destroy a brand in a nanosecond”.
Joe Talcott examined both the dark and light sides of social networks and demonstrated how film marketers can use them effectively. Having recently returned from the Cannes International Festival of Creativity, Joe showed examples from around the world. The good, the bad and the bizarre.
